Controls offering similar functions should be grouped together. 3. If the same controls appear on several related screens they should be in the same position on each screen. 4. Controls that are use frequently should be easy to find 5. Some controls should not be placed near each other For each rule : • Describe, with an example drawn from your experience of software of an instance, where the rule has been applied or not; • explain how the rule might be expected to improve the interface • give an opinion, with justification (with reference to user interface principles and theories), as to whether the rule is a good one. Task 2 A large hotel “International Hotel”, has approached your company and wishes for some work to be carried out for them. International Hotel would like to have a new system put into their lobby (such as a kiosk system), whereby guests arriving at the hotel, will be able to check availability of rooms, facilities and services provided, before they actually book the room. Customers will also be able to reserve a room, check in and check out which includes paying. The system will allow a manager to use the same screen to access management reports tracking the usage of the system. A customer will be able to: • View room availability and price • View pictures of other facilities (eg gym , pool) • View menus • Register personal details and credit card details • Book a room specifying dates • Book a restaurant table • Check out and receive a printed invoice. A manager will be able to: • Log in using ID and password • View booking statistics • View customer details • View percentage occupancy by date.
